Firstly, sorry I haven't written anything in a while. I've either been too busy or too lazy (mostly lazy, since I've finally been able to relax) to write. Let's see then, so after the last time I wrote, what happened...
I gave a small gift to my roommate the night before she left, and since this is very much a gift giving country, she ended up cooking breakfast for me the next morning. That's why I almost didn't want to give a gift, because then I knew she may feel obligated or burdened or something with doing something for me. But I did want to give her something, especially since she'd cooked for me before and invited me to everything and had just been so nice, even with my being my usual quiet and awkward self. Which is why I wished they could've been here longer, so I could've gotten over that hump, which is just been starting to a couple days before they left.
In any case, she then invited me to their closing ceremony, as were other Japanese students' roommates invited. Let me tell you, it was a lot less formal than the opening ceremony we had a few hours later. They were just in their classroom and were called up to get their certificates, and it wasn't too serious. Clearly, since we joked a bit and stuff. But for our opening ceremony, we had to have a rehearsal and everything before, and we had to dress up a bit. The mayor and some other important people came as guests. We had to stand up, bow to both guests and faculty, then introduce ourselves in Japanese, which was a bit nerve wracking what with all the people there. Which really wasn't a lot, but for me it was enough.
Afterwards, there was a party/mix and mingle thing, during which I talked a bit with a couple of the guests, one being the Shiva Prefecture tourism person, or something, who spoke English. The other person didn't, but I was able to use a bit of Japanese, so maybe I'm not as doomed as I thought.
Then I mostly relaxed this weekend. Let's see, though...I forgot what I did Friday night. Saturday I didn't go to Osaka, but was signed up for that elementary thing. Basically, I've always known I'm not going to teach and I'm not good at it, nor am I good with kids, but I thought I'd give this a shot. However, it just confirmed that I'm 120% certain I'm not going to teach or have anything to do with kids. I'm glad I tried, but...for me, it was a failure. Me+kids+teaching=NO/NEVER/BAD IDEA.
But enough about that. I think Saturday I ended up hanging out with people in the TV room, and then three of us decided people were being too antisocial, so we knocked on every single door to get people to go with us to Coco's, and afterwards we ended up in the TV room again. First we watched some of this all-women group ballet/musical, Japanese version of Romeo and Juliet, which was actually pretty interesting and not that bad. Then we tried to get other people to join us in watching the live action movie of Rurouni Kenshin, which I have seen before, because I think I roads off halfway through. Apparently I was tired. Only one other person joined us, though. Well, two people, but one left halfway through.
Saturday night the typhoon hit, though I slept through most of it. I was also able to keep my window open since I was on the other side of the building, yay! I'll try to post my video of the view from my window later on, if I can.
Sunday night, after doing nothing all day, my friend and I went out shopping, after dark, while it was still pretty windy. Well, though others had complained about the wind, but I've been in stronger winds than that. Maybe those people just don't bike a lot. That was fun, though. I ended up getting some amazing melon bread which I had for breakfast today, and I got another pokemon toy from one of those toy machine things. I don't really follow pokemon, but they're so adorable, and these toys are well made, so...Yeah, I'm jot sure what to call those toy machine things. They're basically the same thing as the ones you see in most stores where you put in a quarter, turn the knob and a ball with a toy comes out. The difference is that these usually cost about $2, but it's worth it because they're so well made and detailed. See? (Also, the melon bread that's so delicious and fluffy)
Well, today was fairly normal. Oh, but we went out and about and we found some great Engrish shirts, one of which I bought (the dark one), and I forgot to take a pic of one other. But I think the light colored one wins when it comes to Engrish.
